Three Step Guide to Relieving Your Baby’s Colic

Bringing a baby home from hospital is an exciting time, but it can be daunting. Suddenly it is your responsibility to care for this little human and correctly identify all their wants and needs from their various shrieks and squeals.

Are they hungry? Wet? Cold? Hot?

You sleep lighter than you ever thought was humanly possible, and are attuned to wake at the slightest change in the cadence of their breathing.

But what happens when your baby won’t stop crying? When they scream and scream, and you don’t know how to soothe them? Excessive crying in babies, who otherwise appear to be healthy, could be colic.

What is colic?

Baby colic or infantile colic is characterised by prolonged episodes of crying (of more than three hours a day, three days a week for three consecutive weeks) in an otherwise healthy child. While the cause of colic is unknown, there are steps you can take to deal with it:

1. Swaddle the baby in a snuggly blanket
