10 TIPS FOR SUMMER VAGINAL HEALTH!

Sea, sun, heat… during summer the mercury rising and the mood lifting goes hand in hand with the need for even more diligent personal hygiene than the rest of the year.

At the sea / beach / pool:

1. Take a shower before and after using the pool

This way you can protect the intimate area from infections that can be caused by microorganisms in the water.

2. Change the wet swimsuit immediately

Vaginal yeast infections can occur if moisture is trapped around your vulva. Combined with the heat that develops in the area during the summer months, the problem intensifies. As soon as you come out of the sea, replace your wet bathing suit with a dry one.

3. Use 2 different towels at the beach: one for drying, one for the sunbed

There’s no need to risk bringing any bacteria from the chaise to your intimate area that will lead to infections.

4. No towel sharing!

Just like your toothbrush. Towels are this personal, thus no sharing occurs for maximum hygiene.

5. Washing the towels often is a must

Germs that accumulate on their surface can be transferred to your intimate area when wiping or after contact with the fabric on the sunbed. Therefore, it’s best to have at least 2 towels so that you can wash them often. It is advised to prefer high temperatures that “kill” the germs and then proceed with ironing.

 6. Avoid sitting directly on the sand

But not directly on the straw beach mat or sunbed either, because they are a “hiding place” for germs that make the intimate area vulnerable to infection. Spread a towel on them.

During summer in general:

 7. Opt for breathable fabrics

Cotton and linen for example, let the skin breathe and will protect more efficiently that synthetic fabrics that trap moisture.

 8. Avoid super tight pants or shorts

Again, these clothes tend to create a super friendly moist environment for all sorts of germs, bacteria etc. Opting for a more relaxed clothing is something our intimate area will appreciate.

 9. On period days it’s best to change tampons, pads or empty the menstrual cup quite often

Every 4-6 hours; This way you can keep the area dry and protected. It is also important to avoid scented napkins or tampons.

 10. Do not neglect the daily cleansing with specialized products

Twice a day, cleanse your intimate area with specially formulated products for the intimate area. Whether you prefer a foam or a liquid, or even wipes for the day-to-day, invest in one (or more) that respects the vaginal pH during post-puberty and pre-menopause era.

With the proper hygiene rules for the intimate area, you can enjoy a summer of freshness, comfort and protection.
