Most of us will have gotten spots during our teen years. It’s to be expected. But some adults can and do get spots well beyond their teens. But what causes some adults to get acne? And most importantly how do you get rid of it? A recent study by British Association of Dermatology (BAD) found that drug-resistant ‘super acne’ is on the rise.
This super acne is said to be the direct result of people relying on antibiotics to get rid of spots, so people are now looking for other ways to combat acne. But first;
What causes it?
As with adolescent acne, adult acne can be a result of your hormones. Hormonal changes can cause your skin to produce an excess of sebum, an oily secretion that comes out of sebaceous glands. Some women during menopause experience acne and this is a result of a fluctuation of hormonal levels.
Some prescriptions’ side-effects can be acne or acne-like breakouts. Some of the common medications that can cause acne are some birth control pills and antidepressants.
Also, if you live in a busy city, the chances are the air quality is not going to be the cleanest. Pollutants from fumes of cars, factories etc. enter the atmosphere and can sit on our skin and clog up pores. This results in spots.
Other factors include stress, smoking and drinking.
So, how do I prevent and banish acne?
