Kids Hairstyling Hacks You Need to Know

As any parent will tell you, getting your kid’s hair ready and presentable for the day can be a battle of patience and creativity. With a little bit of know-how and insider knowledge, you can take on your kid’s hair every day with confidence and ease. How? Just follow some of these must-try kids hairstyling hacks below.

Prepare the hair before bed

If your child has long hair that tends to look a little messy after a night’s sleep then this is the one for you. Whether their hair is chin length or longer, brush or comb their hair before bed. Use a detangling spray to ease out any knots and then tie up in a ponytail or plait into a tidy braid. This will minimise the amount of bedhead hair your kid will wake up with the next morning, leaving you to just brush out their hair.

Keep them entertained

If your little one is a bit of a fidget, then one of the best ways to keep them put is to keep them entertained. Let them choose a favourite toy, book or sit them down in front of their favourite children’s TV. Sit yourself in a chair or your child on a small stool whilst you do their hair. If they are engaged with something else, you’ll have a better chance of styling their hair. Keep encouraging them and praising them for being so good. A little goes a long way.

Conquering cowlicks

A protruding tuft of hair can be cute, but sometimes you may want to tame it:

  • Blow-dry hair smooth from the roots down to the ends using a closely bristled brush.
  • Let hair grow longer. A cowlick needs either weight to keep it down or length to blend it away.
  • Use styling gel or cream to slick it down or to play it up. Sometimes it’s best to go with it, for extra personality and unique style.

Go for easy-care cuts and styles

When choosing a fresh look for your child, it can be a good idea to pick one that’s easy and relatively low maintenance. There are many easy hairstyles for kids to suit all hair types. If you’re not sure, visit a hairdresser that specialises in kids’ hair and ask for some advice and style suggestions.

Use the Dads vacuum ponytail trick

This one has become one of the most well-known hacks for dads styling their daughters hair. To do this wonderfully quick and fun method all you need to do is place a hairband around the nozzle of a vacuum cleaner after removing any head attachments.

Get your little one to sit still as you gather their hair, hold the vacuum nozzle to the ends of the hair and gently allow the hair to be sucked into the nozzle.

Once all the hair from the nape of the neck onwards is sucked in, gather the remaining hair and push the hairband up over the nozzle and pull the hair through the band.

This is so easy to do, and little girls often find it good fun.
