What Is Nappy Rash Anyway?

Although one of the most common skin irritations a baby can develop, nappy rash is a sore topic of conversation. Luckily enough, it’s easy to treat and can get better in no time at all.

What causes nappy rash?

Up to a third of little tots get nappy rash at some point. It’s often caused by the prolonged contact of urine or stool, but can also be triggered by the nappy rubbing against your baby’s skin, alcohol based wipes, or even a recent intake of antibiotics.

It’s important to remember that babies’ skin is much more sensitive than ours, and can get irritated quickly.

So how can we prevent nappy rash?

  • Change your baby as soon as possible after they wee or poo
  • Use disposable nappies with high absorbency to keep skin dry
  • Use pH-neutral soaps when cleaning your baby’s bottom to maintain their skin’s natural pH levels and avoid irritation

What if it’s too late?

Fortunately, you can treat nappy rash at home. All you need is to do follow the above steps, and let your baby have as much nappy-free time as possible. In other words, let your baby roam free and naked!

To speed things up, you can buy a barrier cream, such as our paraben-free dermatologically tested nappy rash cream. Specially formulated for babies, it contains a low percentage of zinc oxide, allowing skin to breathe naturally and chamomile oil to sooth irritated skin.

We’re proud to say it was a finalist in the Beauty Shortlist Mama & Baby Awards 2016.
