How to Care for Your Body After Pregnancy

Pregnancy is a very special time, as every mother and mother-to-be knows. Nine months of growing and carrying a little life is a unique experience. After you’ve delivered your bundle of joy you’ll most likely feel tired and be more conscious of your looks and body. This is of course natural. As well as being a mum, you are still you and it’s important to make time to pamper and look after yourself. After all, a happy mum often means a happy baby.

Follow some of our top tips to refresh and rejuvenate your body after giving birth.

Postnatal yoga

Yoga is a great way to get you feeling fit, both in mind and body. It helps you to reconnect with your body. Doctors normally recommend a recovery time of six weeks for new mums after a vaginal birth and longer after a caesarean. If in doubt, speak to a doctor or midwife to clarify.

As with all physical activities, listen to your body, if something hurts stop. Take it nice and easy. The NHS website has some great postnatal yoga exercises specific for new mums. Grab a yoga mat, play some soothing music if you wish and gently do some yoga poses. Working this slowing into your weekly routine will have you feeling fab in no time at all!

After nine months of expanding and then suddenly contracting, it’s safe to say you can expect to see some stretchmarks on your body, particularly to your tummy area. If you’re currently pregnant, a good preventative is our Prevenstria Cream. This cream protects the skin again stretch marks from puberty, sudden weight change as well as pregnancy. Take care from the inside out

Having a healthy, happy body isn’t just down to what you do with or put on your body. What you put into your body makes a huge contribution to how your body will look and feel.

As we all know, fresh fruit and veg are essential for a healthy, skin, bones, hair, muscle and digestive system. Try and vary your diet with different types of fruit and vegetables. Don’t be afraid to try new recipes either.

After carrying your baby and supplying them with all the nutrients they need to develop and grow, it’s time to replenish and rejuvenate your own body. Look for leafy greens like spinach, kale and cabbage as they are all rich in folic acid, vitamin C, potassium and magnesium.

Pamper yourself

As a new mum you’ll be thinking a lot about this new little person you now care for, but don’t forget yourself. Take time out regularly for a relaxing shower, apply some Hair Repair Mask to nourish your hair, leaving it soft, shiny and smooth.

Whilst your baby is sleeping sit down with a good book and a cup of tea and let the tranquillity to wash over you. Even just ten minutes out of your busy day goes a long way to help you feel cool, calm, collected and to be the best mum you know you are.
