How to Get Your Feet Summer-Ready

Have your feet been languishing in tights all winter? Stuffed in leather shoes? Hidden away from the light of day? If you’ve been ignoring your feet during the cold months, the arrival of sandal season may fill you with complete dread.

Suddenly you need to reveal that chipped pedicure and those hardened heels to the world.  Gulp.

Don’t worry, with a little preparation and TLC you can make even the most neglected tootsies summer-ready in no time. Here are our top tips for keeping your feet soft, supple, healthy and Instagram-worthy – all summer long.

1. Find a good podiatrist

A podiatrist is a doctor that treats conditions associated with the foot, ankle and leg. If you have a bad gait that is affecting your feet, severe bunions, any toenail problems (such as fungal infections or ingrown nails), corns, callouses or ankle pain a podiatrist can help you.

They should really be your first port of call when it comes to looking after your feet. Podiatry appointments go to the heart of the problem whereas pedicures only beautify on a superficial level.

2. Give yourself an at-home pedicure

Once your feet are healthy, you can turn your attention to some aesthetic improvement. And the best part? It doesn’t need to cost the earth. You can easily give yourself an at-home pedi and achieve spa results. Start by soaking your feet in some warm water to soften the nails and cuticles. Cut or file your nails straight across (rounding them can cause painful ingrown nails).

Use a cuticle stick to remove any dirt and debris from beneath your nails. Then gently push back your cuticles. Next use an exfoliator like our FREZYFEET Kerative Cream to remove hard skin. Finally, slather your feet in a rich moisturiser. Our FREZYFEET Revital Cream offers the perfectly nourishing treat for feet.

3. Add some colour

This is the fun part! Opt for bright, punchy colours that will really stand out against your summer tan. Coral nail varnish is endlessly flattering. Red nail varnish is a classic. But really you can experiment with a kaleidoscope of shades. Our advice? Steer clear of French pedicures, which now look a little dated.

4. Protect against callouses and blisters

Make sure you invest in a pair of good-quality, well-fitting sandals to prevent undue skin-rubbing when the mercury rises. If you do get a blister, resist the urge to burst it! Instead, apply ice to the affected area, wrap it in a bandage and give the offending footwear a break until the blister heals.

5. Keep your feet cool

Ever get the impression that your fingers are morphing into stubby sausages right before your eyes in the summer? You’ll have experienced this if you’ve tried to remove rings from hot hands.

Well, your feet swell as much (if not more) during sunny days. Keep them fresh by applying a deodorant like our FREZYFEET Odor Stop Spray during the day and soaking in cold water in the evenings.

6. Go barefoot whenever you can

If you’ve gotten your feet in tip-top condition, you might as well show them off. Going barefoot also helps to prevent excess sweating and keeps your nails healthy and infection-free.
