There you are, staring at the mirror… When you notice a couple of highly pigmented circles staring back at you.

The cold temperature of the previous months has taken a toll on your skin and general appearance.

  1. First identify the color of your circles.

The blueish ones are the result of very thin skin. With a skin almost transparent, the blood shows underneath. Blue circles only get worse with age, when we lose subcutaneous fat and skin is getting even thinner.

If their color is rather brownish, then it’s resulted by hyperpigmentation from sun exposure, genetics or even chronic eye-rubbing. Brown circles most often occur among African-American or Asian populations.

Either way, incorporating an eye cream into your skincare routine will help with the puffiness and dullness around the eyes. You could also try a tinted one in the morning, that can substitute your concealer.

 

  1. Dehydrated skin makes the appearance of dark circles more prominent.

Dehydrated skin makes even the tiniest wrinkle look deeper, as the skin loses its plump. The undereye area being even thinner, looks even worse without proper hydration. Drinking loads of fluids or eating watery veggies and fruits such as cucumber or oranges, can go a long way.

 

  1. Sleep better!

Sleep deprivation may not cause dark circles, on its own, however it does have a great impact on the final pigmentation. Good quality and quantity sleep will improve the appearance of your darkies, as well as pretty much every aspect of your life. If you’re having trouble sleeping lately, try adding a blue light filter on the screen of your laptop for a natural light for the eyes, eat a light dinner and take a hot shower before tucking yourself in.

Diet is always relevant when something is off, in our life.

A more colorful diet rich in vitamins and antioxidants has been linked to better health and a younger-looking skin. Vitamins A, C, D and antioxidants such as Resveratol, Curcumin and Coenzyme Q10 are what you should look for when heading to the grocery store.

Retinoids -which is basically-Vitamin A, is something to even start applying topically on the skin, when trying to get rid of dark circles.
