Tips to Combat Dry Skin This Winter

The combination of cold, windy, outdoor weather and central heating can wreak havoc on your skin during the winter, resulting in it becoming dehydrated and dry.

To ensure that your skin remains healthy during the colder months, we would recommend that you adapt your skincare routine for the winter to ensure your skin gets the nourishment it needs.

Moisturise more

If your skin is prone to dryness or becomes drier in the winter months, then you may wish to consider using a richer body moisturizer. To maximize its effects, apply your chosen moisturiser onto your damp skin straight after a shower or bath, this will lock the moisture in. Our range of rich moisturising body milks and creams are formulated to gently nourish and instantly hydrate your skin.

Upgrade your facial moisturiser

If your skin is becoming drier and you use a lotion or gel moisturizer you may wish to switch to using a richer cream. The FREZYDERM Moisturizing Plus Cream hydrates all three levels of the skin, while reducing the effects of ageing and providing anti-oxidant protection.

Avoid long hot showers

Although it may seem tempting to take a hot shower when it’s cold, this can further dry out your skin. Using warm, not hot, water and limiting your shower time to ten minutes will help your skin to stay hydrated.

Protect your hands

The skin on the hands often becomes dry during the cold weather because it is thinner than on the other parts of the body, with fewer oil glands. We would recommend applying a lightweight hand cream during the day and wearing gloves when it is very cold.

Drink water

Even though the weather is colder it’s still important to keep your body hydrated. Drinking eight glasses of water a day will have a fantastic impact on your skin and your overall health.

Don’t neglect your sun protection

While it may feel unnecessary to use products with sun protection in the winter your skin is still continually exposed to UV rays. Make sure you continue to use SPF products, especially when you are heading outside.

You can see our full range of face creams, including those with SPF protection, here.
