How to Keep Your Skin Hydrated over the Winter Months
These cold, blistery winter months can be a tough time for your skin. Trying to keep it happy and healthy can seem like an uphill struggle with the cold winds, rain and going from cold air to hot central heated homes can really dry out your skin, leaving it flaky, cracked, sore and crying out for some TLC.
But with a little effort and a lot of moisturising, you can keep hydrated for soft, supple and smooth skin. Here are five ways to keep your skin hydrated this winter:
Hydrate from within
Everybody knows that drinking water is one of the most basic and best ways to stay hydrated and improve your skin.
You’re supposed to be drinking between 6-8 glasses of water a day.
This is to replace any liquid your body naturally uses and loses in an average day.
Drinking just glasses of water can be a bit boring for many of us but you can change it up with herbal teas.
Keep in mind that caffeinated drinks will dehydrate you so maybe cut down on the coffees or match each cup of coffee with a glass of water.
Ditch your soap!
Traditional soaps strip the skin of moisture and dry it out. Regular soaps often have a high alkaline pH level which leaves skin feeling clean but also pretty dry.
Swap your standard soap for our Mild Wash Liquid. It leaves you feeling squeaky clean without irritating and it leaves your skin soothed and hydrated.
Another great option is our Body Shower Revitalizing Cleanser. Awarded as best Care – Slimming Body product by Prix De Beaute 2014, it gently cleanses dry, dehydrated skin. Its active ingredients reduce skin irritation as it hydrates, making it a great go-to for dry winter skin.
Look closely at your products
Pay attention to the ingredients of the products you use regularly. Stop using any products that contain alcohol as this is really drying on the skin.
There are loads of cleansers and toners without alcohol available so there’s no excuse. Is there alcohol in it? If so, bin it. Why not use our De-Make Up 4 in 1 multifunctional skin purifier instead? It gently cleanses, tones and hydrates your skin, removing make-up and daily dirt. It even works on waterproof makeup!
Avoid long baths and showers
We’re not saying stop washing. That would be bad. What we are saying is that overly long hot baths and showers rob the skin of its natural oil and moisture.
Warm baths or showers for a shorter time are best. You can replace any lost skin hydration by using our Christialen Emulsion. This body milk instantly hydrates and nourishes your skin. Enriched with almond oil, this body milk is the best way to replenish your skin’s moisture levels after a shower or bath. Apply the emulsion when your skin is still slightly wet to trap moisture in to get the full benefits.
Moisturise your atmosphere
Use a humidifier to keep moisture at home or at work. You can improvise a humidifier by putting a bowl of water on your radiators to put moisture into the air as it evaporates. The warmer it is indoors, the less humidity there will be, and its humidity that helps keep skin from drying out.
