6 Ways to Beat the Winter Blues

The changing of the seasons can be tough on most of us. With less daylight, big family events, expensive bills, and the cold weather, things can start to wear you down.

By making some simple changes and taking some time out you can perk yourself up and wave goodbye to those winter blues.

  1. Keep active

A Harvard study published in 2005 found that walking fast for about 35 minutes a day, five times a week, significantly helps mild to moderate depression.

Take your dog for a walk, or stroll to the shops instead of taking the bus – it could really lift your mood! And, moderate exercise is even better. Not only will it increase your serotonin levels but you’ll also have a sense of accomplishment after a workout.

  1. Pamper yourself

Take time out after a hard day to treat yourself. Give yourself a footbath with essential oils, put on a face mask and undergo a hair treatment. You can really indulge and forget your troubles without spending too much, just a bit of time dedicated to you!

Try our Hair Repair Mask, specially formulated for dry hair. The mask contains jojoba oil, cotton flower extract and ceramides that reconstruct the hair, leaving it soft, shiny and smooth.

The pre-Christmas rush makes life very busy. So, it’s important to remember to take some time out for yourself. A recent article stated that on average Britons take just four baths and 227 showers per year.

A steaming hot bubble bath is the perfect antidote to a stressful day or week. Take a long soak, add some essential oils and enjoy. Afterwards, restore your skin’s moisture levels with our Christialen Emulsion. As the great poetess, Sylvia Plath, once wrote: “There must be quite a few things a hot bath won’t cure, but I don’t know many of them”.

  1. Go outside!

Venturing out of the house is a simple yet effective way to banish those winter blues. A decrease in daylight is often cited as a contributor to SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) and even though the sun may not be shining there is still daylight that will lift your mood.  Despite it being winter, wearing some sun protection is still advised as the UV rays still penetrate through the atmosphere. We recommend the Sun Screen Velvet Face SPF 30. Its clear, non-oily texture leaves no white tint and makes an excellent makeup foundation.

  1. Eat well

You’ve probably realised that you’ve opted for a carb heavy dish than you did a couple months ago, we understand, it’s winter after all! But over indulgence can leave you feeling sluggish and lethargic, so do remember to eat lighter, and fruit and veg every so often.

  1. Or, find a new hobby!

Get yourself immersed in a new hobby or interest. Something that really sparks your passions. Whether it’s a new language course, an exercise program or knitting, throw yourself into it and you’ll soon feel accomplished, active and successful.
