Homeopathy: Frequently Asked Questions

Homeopathy is a complementary treatment that utilises tiny doses of natural substances that in larger amounts would produce symptoms of the illness. Follow our FAQ for a look at homeopathy and homeopathic remedies.

What is homeopathy?

Homeopathy was created in 1796 by Samuel Hahnemann, who believed that a substance that causes symptoms of a disease, illness or condition in healthy people would cure similar symptoms in sick people.

Who can take it?

Old or young, weak, strong all can use homeopathic remedies. For very young children it’s recommended to seek advice from a professional.

What is it used for?

Popular conditions homeopathy practitioners aim to help include:

  • Asthma
  • Ear infections
  • Hay fever
  • Depression, anxiety and stress
  • Food allergies,
  • Dermatitis
  • Arthritis

What are homeopathic remedies made from?

Homeopathic remedies are made using diluted alcohol or distilled water. 80% of the remedies are made from crude material of specific plants. The others are made from specific minerals, salts and insects. A small few are made from animal products and even the disease material.

Does it work?

For several years, there has been a lot of research done to study the effectiveness of homeopathy. Many of the studies have been inconclusive in the results, proving neither for or against the treatment.

Is it available on the NHS?

Homeopathic treatments are not offered by the NHS in all of the UK, but two NHS hospitals provide homeopathy, and some GPs also offer it.

Is it safe?

Generally speaking, homeopathic treatments are safe and free from serious health risks.  Of course, if you’re allergic to certain ingredients then make sure these are not in your homeopathic treatments.

Can homeopathic medicine & conventional medicine be taken together?

Regular medicines from doctors, pharmacists etc. produce chemical effects that generally suppress symptoms while homeopathic remedies stimulate your body to heal itself.

We have several products that work in harmony with homeopathic treatments and won’t interrupt them.

Our Homeopathy Toothpaste does not contain any ingredients that could counteract your homeopathic treatments. Free from fluoride, essentials oils, saccharin, mint and menthol derivatives, this toothpaste still prevents cavities, reduces mouth dryness and bleeding gums. Why not request a sample today?

Similarly, Our Homeopathy Mouthwash gives a great anti-bacterial and microbial action, fights cavities, reduces bleeding gums without working against any homeopathic remedies you may be taking.
